Our cacao is as pure as it gets — just one ingredient: whole-bean cacao. We gently transform the beans into a 100% pure cacao paste that naturally sets into a solid form at room temperature. Nothing added, nothing removed — only cacao in its true, complete form.

Think of cacao powder as the stripped-down cousin of real cacao. It’s lighter, simpler, and missing the depth that makes cacao so special — a bit like sipping instant coffee when what you really crave is a slow, full-bodied espresso.

At Koracao, we don’t work with shortcuts. We honor the bean in its wholeness: hand-picked at harvest, gently fermented, dried under the sun, and lightly roasted before being stone-ground into a living paste. That paste is then set and cut into blocks — pure, complete, and untouched. Nothing extra, nothing lost.

Powder, by contrast, comes from pressing much of the natural cacao butter out of the paste. This extra step robs it of its creaminess, richness, and the very fats that help deliver cacao’s powerful effects. What’s more, industrial methods like dutch-processing can dramatically reduce the very compounds that make cacao such a potent ally for body, mind, and spirit.

Cacao has long been celebrated as one of nature’s most extraordinary gifts — dense with nutrients, rich in bioactive compounds, and alive with possibilities for body, mind, and spirit. Its chemistry is unlike any other food, which is why cultures across the world have turned to it for both nourishment and healing.

We’ve even gathered a full guide on the many ways cacao supports well-being, but here’s the essence: it can lift your mood, strengthen your heart, fuel endurance, help regulate appetite, and so much more. These effects aren’t just folklore — they’re backed by modern science.

Koracao takes this ancient superfood to its highest expression: 100% organic, ceremonial-grade cacao, crafted with care and never exposed to the harsh heat that strips away its natural medicine. What you receive is cacao in its purest, most potent form — exactly as nature intended.

Move over coffee, there's a new energy source in town and it's called cacao! Unlike coffee, cacao is a smooth operator that won't leave you crashing and burning after a quick burst of intensity. While coffee gets you all jittery and stressed out thanks to the cortisol it produces, cacao's active ingredient, theobromine, is here to save the day. Theobromine reduces cortisol, so you can relax and enjoy the ride. Plus, cacao's got your heart pumping with joy by stimulating your cardiovascular system and opening up your blood vessels. This means more blood flow, more oxygen, and less stress on your blood pressure.

The terms “cacao” and “cocoa” often get tossed around as if they mean the same thing — but they’re not.

Cacao is the fruit in its wholeness: the pods from the theobroma cacao tree, the beans inside, and everything we craft from them — like our pure cacao paste or crunchy nibs.

Cocoa, on the other hand, is what’s left once much of the natural cacao butter has been squeezed out. The result is a dry, powdery product that’s lighter, flatter, and missing many of the compounds that give cacao its richness and vitality.

In the last decade, some powders labeled “cacao” are made at lower temperatures or kept raw, which can be nourishing — but they still don’t carry the same full spectrum of flavor, creaminess, or neuroactive benefits that come from true whole-bean cacao paste.

The clearest way to tell the difference? Taste it. Feel it. Notice what happens in your body. Cacao speaks for itself.

We have multiple methods we recommend, the easiest is melting cacao and milk into your pan then putting it into your blender to get rid of any bits. Read the preperation guide here.

Unlike other plant medicines that make you see unicorns and rainbows (we're looking at you, peyote, psilocybin mushrooms, and ayahuasca), cacao won't take you on a trip to a different dimension. Instead, a daily dose of cacao will give you a gentle energy boost, like a warm hug from your grandma, but without the jitters or anxiety of caffeine. In fact, our customers report feeling super chill and zen after indulging in our cacao goodness.

But wait, there's more! As you increase your cacao intake, you may experience even more psychological effects. Some people report feeling tender or vulnerable, while others feel pure joy and euphoria. It's like a surprise party for your taste buds and your mind! So why not join the party and try it out for yourself? The effects may vary from person to person and day to day, but one thing's for sure: cacao is a treat for your senses and your soul.

Cacao has been used for thousands of years in ceremonial settings — always with intention, for healing, connection, and opening the heart.

Today, a “cacao ceremony” can take many forms. For some, it’s a quiet moment of presence and reflection; for others, it’s a gathering filled with music, movement, meditation, or creative expression. You might drink your cacao in silence, journaling or meditating… or you might share it in circle with friends, opening space for connection and community.

What matters most is your intention. There is no single “right” way — only the way that feels true for you.

Here's a friendly reminder: while cacao is usually the hero of our taste buds and our mood, it may not be the best partner for antidepressants. In fact, some antidepressants like MAOIs and SSRIs may clash with cacao and cause a nasty headache or even worse, serotonin syndrome, which can be really serious.

You see, cacao paste contains tryptophan and MAO inhibitors, which can intensify the effects of antidepressants when combined. So if you're on antidepressants, it's probably best to save your cacao indulgence for later. We know it's hard to resist the temptation of chocolate, but your health and wellbeing come first. Stay safe, stay healthy, and remember: there's always a time and place for cacao!

Q: Is cacao fattening? A: Cacao does have a relatively high fat content compared to coffee, which has zero fat. However, the assumption that eating fat will make us fat is no longer supported by research.

Q: Can I still drink cacao if I'm trying to lose weight? A: Yes, you can still drink cacao if you're trying to lose weight. In fact, high-fat, low-carb diets tend to be more effective for weight loss and other health benefits compared to low-fat diets.

Q: How many calories are in a cup of cacao? A: A regular cup of cacao, prepared with a dash of oat milk and a teaspoon or two of honey, is equivalent in calories to a small latte.
